THE TEMPERATURE BLANKET PROJECT
|
Over the course of 2025 we recorded daily temperatures to use in the creation of a crochet temperature blanket.
If you would like to make your own version you need to decide on the colours for the different temperature ranges. We used a combination of Stylecraft Special DK and Life DK that we selected from our stash. We used an Emma Ball Colour Chart Card to make a quick reference guide. If you don't have a card you can find an alternative free download version by clicking here. Printing on thick paper or card will be best and you'll need a hole punch too. |
To determine your temperature ranges you need to know the typical temperature range where you live. For example, here in North London we don't often see temperatures drop much below zero degrees celsius or go above thirty, so we assigned a colour for anything below zero and then moved in two degree increments up to twenty-nine degrees and above. That gave us sixteen yarn shades in total. We decided to use yarns from our stash and came up with a colour palette on the basis of what we found.
We can't tell you how much yarn you will need as this will be dependent on how many colours you use and the temperature fluctuation where you are, however, we suggest that you use yarns that are easy to obtain should you require more. We recommend using a DK (8ply) yarn.
You will need to record the daily temperatures for where you are in the world. It doesn't matter how you do this, but doing it the same way every day is important. We used a weather app to check the maximum temperature was each day. We have created a temperature recording chart for each month of the year for you to log your temperatures.
