PALOMA - Revisiting Frida's Flowers

 I designed my Frida’s Flowers blanket as a crochet along project for Stylecraft back in 2016. It remains one of my favourite designs as the inspiration was the iconic artist Frida Kahlo.

My yarn shades and design elements were drawn from her incredible sense of style and her fondness for wearing traditional Mexican attire rather than the fashions of her time.

A decade on from the release of the original colourway of this design I felt it was time it was given some renewed love. Using the beautiful new Pure Wool from the Naturals range by Stylecraft, I’ve recoloured Frida’s flowers and have done away with the black background yarn shade and replaced it with a fabulous deep blue that echoes the colour of many items found in Frida’s wardrobe.

This new iteration of Frida’s Flowers draws its name from the term of endearment that Frida’s husband, and renowned muralist, Diego Rivera had for her; he called her ‘Palomita’ which translates as ‘Little Dove’.
